FM TOWNS expansion bus slot cards

All TOWNS models except VTOWNS, model SN, 1989 models [1] and Marty have at least one expansion bus slot. 1989 models can add two expansion slots in combination with FMT-611 I/O expansion unit.

RATOC had released REX-3586 and 3587 Ethernet NICs for the slot. The 3586 is 10Base-T and 3587 is 10BASE2 card. Drivers can be downloaded from RATOC site . The controller for the cards is Fujitsu MB8696x.

FMR-50LT cards

Smaller cards for FMR-50LT laptop PC can be installed to TOWNS expansion card slot, in combination with FMT-192 LT card connection adapter.

Fujitsu had released FM50L186, 186A, 187, 187A Ethernet NICs. They officially support FM TOWNS. 186&186A are 10BASE2/10BASE5 and 187&187A are 10Base-T/10Base5 cards. The controller for the cards is AMD Am7990.

Also, Fujitsu had released FM50L188 and 189. They are officially unsupported but might work with FM TOWNS. 188 is 10BASE2/10BASE5 and 189 is 10Base-T/10BASE5 card. The controller for the cards is Fujitsu MB8696x.

All LT Ethernet cards require extra 12V power supply if you want to use Ethernet via 10BASE5 AUI port.

FMR desktop cards for 1989 models

1989 models can expand FMR desktop cards slot with I/O expansion unit FMT-601/602. Fujitsu had released FM60-186/187/188/189 Ethernet NICs for the slot. They does not support FM TOWNS but might work. The specifications of FM60-XXX are the same as FM50LXXX. 10BASE5 AUI port can be used without extra power supply.

PCMCIA cards for model SN

Fujitsu FM50N183 10Base-T card for FM Notebook is provided. It officially supports TOWNS model SN. Fujitsu had released FMV-J181 card after FMV Notebook had released. FMV-J181 does not officially support TOWNS model SN but it is identically the same as FM50N183.

ISA cards for VTOWNS

Fujitsu FMV181/182/183/184 officailly support TOWNS mode of FM VTOWNS. 181 and 183 are 10Base-T/10BASE5 cards and 182 and 184 are 10BASE2/10BASE5 cards. 183 and 184 are ISA PnP cards. The network controller for these cards is Fujitsu MB8696x.
